Responsible for assigning regions to Region Servers (RS)
• Handles load balancing of regions across Region Servers
• Has nothing to do with the actual data access.
• Schema and metadata management.
• Fairly Lightweight Process

HBase: Region Server
Responsible for the read/write requests.
• Handles region splits
• Clients communicate directly with the Region Servers
• Creates their own ephemeral node in ZooKeeper
• Region Servers contain the following:
• WAL (HLOG)
• Memstore
• HFile
